Garrett Infinium LS: Owner's Reference and Setup
The practical detail behind the review: the coils, the deep-water rating and the questions owners ask most. This is an older discontinued pulse induction machine, so the reference reflects that. Checked against Garrett's listings and the wider owner community.
Best accessories for the Garrett Infinium LS
- Submersible headphones Required to reach the full waterproof depth, since the standard package is not rated as deep on its own.
- A coil cover Cheap protection for the large 10 x 14 inch coil.
- A harness or bungee Keep the machine going on long remote trips.
- A spare battery pack Keep the machine going on long remote trips.
Coils that fit the Garrett Infinium LS
| Coil | Type | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 10 x 14 in Power DD | Pulse induction DD | General purpose, the coil supplied as standard |
| 10 x 14 in Mono | Pulse induction Mono | Low-mineralisation ground for extra depth |
| 8 in Mono | Pulse induction Mono | Smaller targets in low-mineralisation soil |
The Infinium LS was discontinued (2002 to 2015, replaced by the ATX), so its coils are no longer made. Buy any coils with the machine and check condition, since replacements are hard to find.
Headphones and audio for the Garrett Infinium LS
The Infinium LS uses waterproof headphones to reach its full depth rating. Plan the audio around genuine underwater use.
Best settings for the Garrett Infinium LS
- This is a pulse induction machine with ground balance rather than a discriminating VLF, so expect to dig more and rely less on target ID.
- Ground balance carefully for the conditions, since PI depth depends on it.
- Use the mono coil in low-mineralisation ground for extra depth, and the DD coil in trashier or more mineralised ground.
- Run at a steady swing; PI rewards patience over speed.
Firmware and manuals for the Garrett Infinium LS
There is no user-installable firmware for the Infinium LS. It is a fixed, older control box.
Garrett's Infinium LS manual is still available in their archive and third-party manual sites; use it for the ground balance and threshold setup.
View the manualGarrett Infinium LS: common questions
How deep is the Infinium LS waterproof?
It is a fully submersible machine rated to 200 feet with the optional submersible headphones, so it is a genuine deep-water and diving detector.
Is the Infinium LS still worth buying?
Only for a specific job. It is a discontinued pulse induction machine with hard-to-find coils. For most detectorists a modern multi-frequency VLF is more practical.
Is the Infinium LS good for coins in a park?
Not ideal. As a pulse induction machine it has limited discrimination, so it suits gold, relics and deep-water work more than trashy urban parks.
