What is a Finds Liaison Officer?
A Finds Liaison Officer, or FLO, records archaeological objects found by the public through the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS). For detectorists, your FLO is the person you take finds to so they can be identified, recorded and added to the national database.
Recording finds with your FLO is voluntary for most objects, but it helps build the bigger picture of our history, and it is a key part of detecting responsibly. Use this directory to find the FLO covering your county.

An FLO is a local expert, part of the Portable Antiquities Scheme, who records archaeological finds made by the public and helps detectorists identify and understand what they have found.
Recording finds with your FLO is voluntary for most objects and is strongly encouraged. However, items that fall under the Treasure Act must be reported by law, usually within 14 days.
Broadly, finds such as objects over 300 years old with a high precious-metal content, groups of coins from the same find, and certain prehistoric metalwork. Your FLO can confirm whether a find qualifies.
