XP Metal Detectors

XP are the French brand that took the cables off. If you’ve seen someone detecting with a tiny, feather-light machine and no box on the shaft, odds are it’s an XP. They’re the wireless pioneers, and the kit reflects it: light, fast and very well made.

About XP

XP Metal Detectors was founded in 1998 in Toulouse, France, by Alain Loubet, whose detecting story goes back to buying his first machine with his brother in 1982. The brand made its name on lightweight, high-sensitivity machines, but the moment that changed everything was 2009 and the launch of the Deus, the first high-performance, fully wireless detector, some versions weighing as little as 770 grams. XP still designs and builds everything in France and controls the whole process from design to distribution.

Company at a glance

Founded 1998 in Toulouse, France, by Alain Loubet. French-designed and French-made, with the company keeping control of the entire production chain.

Best XP Detectors

XP is for the detectorist who values weight and speed. The Deus II is the current flagship, fully wireless, waterproof and seriously fast, the choice of a lot of experienced UK detectorists. The original Deus is still a superb machine and now often the better-value buy, and the ORX brings the wireless XP platform in at a lower price, with a leaning towards gold and coin programmes. None of them are cheap, but you’re paying for genuine engineering, not a badge.
