Nokta Metal Detectors

Nokta are the brand that shook the budget end of the market up. They cram features you’d expect on a machine costing twice as much into something a beginner can actually afford. My Nokta Simplex became my favourite detector for exactly that reason, it punches miles above its price.

About Nokta

Nokta was founded in 2001 in Istanbul, Turkey, and spent its early years building a name for performance at a price. In 2014 it acquired fellow Turkish maker Makro (itself going back to 1986), and for a while machines carried the Nokta Makro badge. The combined company now exports to over 150 countries and has earned official R&D-centre status in Turkey. For a brand that’s younger than most of its rivals, that’s a serious rise.

Company at a glance

Founded 2001 in Istanbul, Turkey. Acquired Makro Detectors (founded 1986) in 2014, so you’ll see both the Nokta and Nokta Makro names. Exports to more than 150 countries across six continents.

Best Nokta Detectors

Pound for pound, Nokta are hard to beat. The Simplex+ is the one I’d put in a beginner’s hands without hesitation: waterproof, wireless headphones included, brilliant battery life, light, and simple to set up. The Legend is the step up, a multi-frequency machine that genuinely competes with detectors costing a lot more. The Anfibio and Gold Kruzer cover the wetter and gold-focused jobs. The only nitpick I’ll make from experience is the Simplex shaft can feel a touch flimsy, but at the price you forgive it quickly.
