Very limited detecting land. Wirral-based clubs have the best farmland permissions. Focus on the Wirral Peninsula for Viking-age potential.
Can You Metal Detect on Council Land in Merseyside?
Sefton Council allows detecting in certain parts of Crosby Beach but excludes the dunes. Its guidance directs Formby enquiries to the National Trust, asks for significant finds to be reported and contains coastal safety advice. Wirral’s Hilbre Islands nature reserve rules prohibit detecting. These are site-specific arrangements, not a Merseyside-wide permission: check the current beach boundaries and landowner conditions before visiting.
