Bounty Hunter Metal Detectors
Bounty Hunter is the brand that puts a working detector in a beginner’s hands for less than the price of a decent coil. They’re America’s best-selling entry-level line, and if someone got a detector for Christmas as a kid, there’s a fair chance it had a Bounty Hunter badge on it. No frills, just an affordable way into the hobby.
About Bounty Hunter
Bounty Hunter started in 1973, originally making accessories for other people’s machines before building its own. The clever bit came in the 1980s when the company patented an early target ID system, the technology that tells you roughly what’s under the coil before you dig. In 1999 First Texas Products bought the brand and moved it in alongside Fisher and Teknetics, and a redesign led by engineer Dave Johnson from 2003 sharpened the whole range.
Company at a glance
Owned since 1999 by First Texas Products, the El Paso, Texas group that also owns Fisher and Teknetics. Every Bounty Hunter is designed and assembled in El Paso, and the brand sits firmly at the budget, beginner-friendly end of the American detector market.
Best Bounty Hunter Detectors
Bounty Hunter is about getting started cheaply. In our lineup the Gold Digger is the absolute entry point, a simple motion detector for pocket money, and the TK4 Tracker IV is the step up, a two-knob machine plenty of people learn the basics on before moving to something with a screen. Be realistic about what you’re buying: these are tools to learn target response and dig discipline on, not deep relic machines. Treated that way they’re brilliant value.
